Vermil Victory

The Victory is a 3rd-generation ring designed in collaboration with The Cinnabar Bow. Its lip is thinner than other models, allowing for more space between the string and the palm, as well as more coverage of your thumb pad. The Victory also has a pinch-free, two-pronged guard, which gives your thumb joint more room to bend and provides a more stable hold on the string (the string rests across the dimple, which mitigates unintentional up/down rolling).

Description and How to Use
"Guai (夬)" is the ancient name for the archer’s thumb ring in China. The original ring was excavated from the State of Rui Mausoleum located in present-day Lingdai Village, Hancheng, Shaanxi Province. It has features unique to the era which make it stand out compared to other rings used throughout Chinese history. [Following two photos are of the original museum ring upon which the King of Rui Ring replica is based.]

Side prong: This short prong is used for securing the arrow. Let the prong touch the left side of the arrow shaft while your draw hand index finger touches the right side of the shaft. This prevents the arrow from slipping off the string.

Wedge: Located at the bottom of the front of the ring, the base of the wedge is used to hook the string.

Lip: The lip at the top of the front of the ring is designed to provide the thumb comfort while drawing the string.

Eagle's Head: The rear of the ring resembles an Eagle's head, with top-rear being the Eagle's beak, and the bottom-rear forming the Eagle's eyes. The shapes serves a functional (as well as artistic) purpose, as you can tie the small threads of the Wrist Rope through the Eagle's eyes.

Optional Accessories and Adjustments
Wrist Rope: You can choose the Long Rope or the Short Rope depends on the size of your wrist. The small threads are fastened to the Eagle's eyes at the back of the ring. The rest is fastened around your wrist. This setup allows you to distribute the pressure between two locations (thumb and wrist), so that the thumb does not have to bear all the pressure alone. This is a different operating principle compared to rings from later eras.

Leaf of Wanlan: Also known as "She (韘)" because this leather lining (which can be added at the front-inside of the ring) is shaped like a leaf.

Grip Tape: When applied to the interior of the ring, it helps prevent the ring from slipping.

Sandpaper: You can use sandpaper to adjust the interior dimensions. Start with the coarse 180-grit sandpaper, then finish with the fine 1000-grit sandpaper. (Remember to wear breathing protection!)
